Inverness Outlanders Book Review: Scotland – An Outlander Tour by Ali Wood

This is the perfect traveling companion for the time conscious Outlander traveller. Small enough to fit in your rucksack / handback but big enough to contain all the information needed to make the most of your precious time in this beautiful country. After the brief introduction there is an excellent chapter on the practicalities of touring Outlander locations (Seasons 1-5) and what to expect at different times of the year. The grand tour of all the sites mentioned recommends 22 days, but this can be easily broken down into shorter tours concentrating on a selection of locations. Over the last few years I have witnessed several ‘tours’ trying to do far too much in too few days. Whilst Scotland is not as large as other countries travel around it does take time, but more to the point you want to allow time to appreciate it and the places visited. With some good advice of purchasing multi passes for attractions there are links to relevant websites such as Historic Scotland and the National Trust for Scotland. Pages 20-27 have a table of locations and the scenes from the TV series in which they featured, some locations are mentioned in the books and some are of associated interest to compliment the tour. With all the necessary research done by Ali you will be free to enjoy your time in Scotland. Each day of the tour is accompanied by a brief description of what you could see, costs, opening times and essential information such as refreshments and facilities for those in your tour party. Ali appreciates that not all members of your group may be as big an Outlander fan as you so suggests activities for the younger age group. Lots of colour photographs are used to guide you in your choices. Whilst in Inverness Day 14 don’t forget to look up the Inverness Outlanders, mentioned of page 78, they love to meet fellow Outlander fans and share insider knowledge of their beautiful home. With all the necessary research done for you will be free to enjoy your time in Scotland, visit new places and maybe make some new friends.
